2019 EOFY Appeal
We strongly believe that people living with intellectual disability should have the same opportunities that everyone else does – to be an active part of their community, to work, socialise and contribute to the economy by earning wages.
Fairhaven is a not for profit charitable organisation that began as a school in 1962, formed by a group of Central Coast parents who came together with a single goal: to provide education options for their children with intellectual disabilities who were unable to access mainstream schools.
Today we are a social enterprise that ensures people living with a disability on the Central Coast live the lives that they aspire to, with a commitment to providing community participation, social skills, employment opportunities, accommodation and living supports.
Kylie is a supported employee who has been with Fairhaven CoPack for several years working in the production area. Since starting her first NDIS Plan with funding for ‘Finding and Keeping a Job,’ Kylie now has a support worker to assist her during her weekly shifts.
The result has been nothing short of fantastic for Kylie. This guidance has enabled Kylie to manage her shifts and more.
“She’s changed my life in a lot of ways, very helpful on the job. I love having her working with me,” said Kylie, of her support worker Katie.
Kylie has progressed from simple packing and labelling to more complex tasks like weighing products. Her abilities do not enable her to do this work independently but as a supported worker her life has changed for the good. “I enjoy everyone’s company and they’re very helpful, it’s close to home too and I’m happy.” Stunning words from a very happy and valued team member.
